On August 2nd Brent, Noah and I welcomed Evelyn Kathleen into our family! "Evie Kate" was born at 37 weeks gestation, weighing 5 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 18.25 inches long. She is such a precious blessing and our whole family is absolutely taken with her! Noah is quickly adjusting to being a big brother, and his new favorite word is "sissy". We are so thankful for her safe and healthy arrival, and love our new family of four!

It's been an exciting spring! We've taken trips to WPB and Orange Beach, AL. Our visit with Chad and Sandy Dorsey in South FL was great. It was so much fun to catch up with them, and Noah even got to go on his first boat ride! He loved it. Noah also got to meet sweet Addie, and thought she was really pretty. :-) Since we left them in March, they have welcomed baby Dean into their family. We can't wait to meet him! Noah, my mom and I met Betsy, Weston and momma Black in Orange Beach, AL for a mother/daughter/baby boy week! It was a blast! Felt so good to soak up some sun and feel the ocean breezes. Noah LOVED it... I think we've created a beach bum! He especially enjoyed playing in the waves and finding beach shells. And... after practicing on the beach, he has started walking on his own!

We found out that we are having a sweet baby girl, but there will be only one baby. Baby B was devastatingly lost between 16-20 weeks. We have since grieved his/her loss and have tried to focus on our healthy daughter. What a blessing she will be! She is very active and is growing perfectly - all is expected to go well with her. This situation reminds me again and again of a song by Matt Redman: "Lord, you give and take away. You give and take away. My heart will choose to say, Lord blessed be your name..." He has blessed us beyond measure and we give him all the glory for our baby girl!

The other big news... TWINS ARE ON THE WAY! Brent and I are thrilled, and are so excited to meet the newest members of the Carnathan clan! We are so blessed and are continually amazed by God's faithfulness. I am about 18 weeks now, and will find out the sexes on April 6th... my 30th birthday! I thought that would be a great way to start out my thirties. :-) I am finally feeling more like myself and getting some energy back - one baby made me tired... two makes me want to sleep all day! Baby B is very active already, but baby A is more quiet - at least at this point!

Noah had a great first birthday! I still can't believe that my baby boy is one already. Time has gone by entirely too fast! We took him to the zoo, which he loved, and had a small party afterward. A good time was had by all! Noah demolished his cake, and had a blast in the process. :-)

We are gearing up for spring and ready for some warm weather! Updates about the twin's genders will be coming soon... (!!)

I hope this entry finds everyone well! I can't believe that 2009 is almost over - what a year for our family... new baby, move, job changes, new house... so many blessings and so much to be thankful for. Brent and I feel SO blessed.

Noah is growing up so fast! He is 9.5 months and crawling everywhere! He is always on the go, and I have a feeling it won't be too long before he starts walking. He continues to be the delight of our lives - such a ray of sunshine. His toothy smile is the best! He enjoys reading books with mommy, hanging out in the wagon while Daddy does yardwork, and playing peek-a-boo. Love that little boy!

Christmas was a fun one this year. Brent's parents and grandmother came down, and on Christmas day Granna, Ed, Tal, and my parents were here too. It was great to have everyone together. Noah had fun unwrapping the presents on Christmas morning... he was more interested in the paper than the toys. :-) He got a rocking horse, and has already got the hang of riding it!

We are ready for the next year and are excited about what's to come. May God bless you in this New Year and always!

Fall Oh Nine!

I can't believe it's already November!! Time is flying by, and our Noah is already almost 8 months. He is sitting up, and gets into crawl position... but no crawling yet! I actually kind of like him stationary. :-) He is such a delight! Full of giggles and smiles. Brent and I have loved watching this little person develop! He is going to be one special kid!

We've had a great Fall so far, and have really gotten settled into our home. Brent is really enjoying a much needed relaxed work schedule, and I am working one day a week. I sure love my time home with Noah - it's definately where my heart is!

Noah was a lion for Halloween, and was the cutest thing ever! His costume really displayed his big blue eyes... we sure love our "little boogins"!

Home Sweet Home!

We're here!!! Finally! Brent, Noah and I have settled into our new home and we just adore it! It is such a peaceful, special place - not many like it. We have been enjoying coffee on the front porch in the morning and sunsets under the jasmine in the evening. We've only been here for one week, but it feels like we've been here forever - the perfect place for the Carnathan family!

The past few months have been busy ones... living in a one bedroom apartment after our house sold, a trip to Florida for job searches, buying our beautiful home, attending the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration, and celebrating Brent's 30th Birthday! Brent's party was held at Tombigbee State Park in Tupelo, MS and we celebrated with friends and family. We caught up with the Dick cousins, Gran, Aunt Jackie, the Parrott and Black families, the Whites, the Kellys, and other friends. Brent had a hard time blowing out all those candles. :-) Noah finally got to meet Avery White, Kelly and Micah's daughter, who was amazingly born on the same day as Noah! They LOVED each other! Noah had his first kiss! They were adorable together. Weston and Noah got to spend some QT together too!

Noah is almost 7 months, and is sitting up well. He continues to be the light of our lives! He laughs and smiles all the time! He loves his new house, and is so glad to have his nursery back! I just can't believe that my baby is getting so big... time really does fly.

It's been a whirlwind, and now that we are mostly unpacked it's time to breath again. Saying goodbye to friends and family in Tennessee and Mississippi was hard and we will miss all of you greatly. We hope to visit soon and are open to company any time!

I think that Noah is just as glad to be HOME.

Can you believe our little boy is 4 months old???? He is getting more fun by the day! Noah is such a happy baby - loves to smile and talk to his mommy and daddy. We set up a baby pool in the backyard and have had several dips so far this summer. Noah is also starting to enjoy his tummy-time... something I was beginning to think would never happen! And... he starts solid food tomorrow! Stay tuned for funny pictures of Noah's first meal. :-)

Noah's 3 month Birthday!

We celebrated Noah's 3 month birthday (June 5th) yesterday. He laughed and waved his chubby little arms when we sang "Happy Birthday" to him and blew out his 3 candles! Noah also met his first girlfriend, Kate Pennel. He thought she was so pretty, and gazed at her all evening! It was a fun night of celebrating the precious little boy. :-)

It's hard to believe that he's already 3 months old. Noah is definately coming into his own, and is developing the sweetest personality. He laughs and giggles, and has discovered his voice. And... he slept from 8:30 PM until 6:30 AM last night!! We dropped his late night feeding, and he slept like a champ!

Noah had his first visit to the pool! He took a quick dip, then a nice pool-side nap. Mommy even got to sunbathe a little! Last weekend, we had a visit from the Parrott family - Betsy, Will and Weston! It was so great to see them and get the boys together. Betsy and I know they will be best friends. :-)

4th Anniversary!

Brent and I traveled to Mississippi for our 4th anniversary. It is hard to believe that four years have passed since our wedding! We decided to go back to Starkville to celebrate where our life together began. We stayed at the Comfort Suites right off of campus, where our first night as a married couple was spent. We took a long walk on the MSU campus that evening, and had such a wonderful time! The place was empty, and we had it all to ourselves. We had a great time rembemering our college experience there! Noah slept through most of the walk, but I know that he felt right at home. :-) We even got to go out to dinner that night - first time for the "three" of us - at Old Venice, an old favorite. The next morning we went to City Bagel, a place where I spent half of my college life pouring over studies with a cup of coffee in hand! It was so nice to be back there! After breakfast, Noah got to meet the Starkville Blairs. It was so much fun introducing him to Great Uncle Ben and Great Aunt Alyson, as well as his cousins! Johanna even got to feed him his bottle.

The next stop was Tupelo. We had a relaxing weekend visiting with Omi and Papaw. Noah got to meet Great Gran for the first time, and she thought he was the most beautiful baby ever! We went to West Jackson Street Baptist Church on Sunday morning, and Brent and I got a date night to ourselves on Sunday night! Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Whitney also stopped by for a visit. It was a fabulous weekend!

Happy Mother's Day

I can't believe that Noah is already almost 2 1/2 months old! He had his checkup and shots today... he was such a brave little guy. Cried only for a minute! I feel bad for his little legs, though! He is such a big boy - 90th percentile in height and 75th in weight. He weighs 12.5 pounds and is outgrowing clothes fast! Noah's favorite thing to do is play with mommy and daddy. He laughs, coos and goos. He thinks it's funny when mommy eats his hand, and he loves to sniff when it's windy or you blow on his face! He is such a happy boy! Noah also got to meet his Aunt Piper last week.

My first Mother's Day was wonderful - not because we did anything special, but I just am so thankful to be a mother. Last year I was praying hard that I would be a mommy this year. Noah is such an answered prayer for us! Just the thought of him warms my heart and makes me smile. Being a mother is the best!!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter! We had a nice and relaxing weekend, and Noah got to celebrate his first Easter. It's hard to believe that he is 6 weeks old! He is such a cool little guy! Brent and I are seeing more and more personality developing every day. We get lots of smiles when his tummy is full!

Over that last two weeks, we have had several visitors. Noah got to meet his Aunt Betsy and new best friend Weston! Weston thinks that Noah tastes really good (as you'll see in the pictures below!) :-). Noah also got to meet Mary and Bill Platte, his honorary grandparents! They are traveling cross-country and stopped in for the night. It has been great seeing everyone!

Well, we survived our first trip with a baby! Noah was such a trooper - a great traveler. Brent and I are learning that there is quite a bit more to pack with a newborn!! We had such a great time with Grammy and Granddaddy in Astor. Noah got to meet Uncle Tal and Great Granna too... they all agree that he is one special baby! Among his many talents to date, Noah has started smiling! He thinks that his daddy is especially funny. :-) We continue to adore our son and thank God for each and every second with him!

Noah has a belly button! I keep telling him that he is officially a baby now :-). He's growing, growing, growing - and gaining PLENTY of weight. Mommy likes her boy chubby and happy! If it's possible, Brent and I think that he is getting more handsome every day!!

Noah is 2 weeks old today! It is hard to believe that so much time has gone by. On the one hand it feels like he has been with us forever, and on the other it feels like we just left the hospital. He is changing so much everyday! We are having more awake time, and even getting the occasional smile :-). Mom and Dad are even starting to get a little more sleep! We think he is the best baby in the world!

Noah saw his pediatrician yesterday and is back up to 8 pounds - he gained 5 ounces in 4 days. Dr. Townsend said he looked fantastic. :-) Nursing is going much better with the help of a breast shield. Noah has also made it through his first two baths, and while he doesn't love it yet he is tolerating it well. Grammy is staying with us until tomorrow, and then Brent and I are on our own! She has been such a blessing this past week, and we'll be sad to see her go!

The First Days

It is wonderful having Noah at home with us! We are settling into our routine, and Brent and I love being "mommy" and "daddy". We can't get enough of him! He had his first pediatrician visit yesterday, and she said he looks great. Of course, we already knew he was perfect :-). Today, he had his little tongue clipped - a frenulotomy - as he was just a bit tongue-tied. It was more tramatic for his mother, who cried through the whole thing, than it was for Noah! He can now stick out his tongue and is practicing his new sucking movements. We hope this will help with breast-feeding.

All in all, things are going great at the Carnathan household. We love our little blessing, and are so thankful that God has given him to us! Too precious for words!

He's Here!!

Praise the Lord, Noah has arrived! He was born at 11:43 PM on 3/5/09, weighing in at 8 pounds 2 oz and 21 inches long. Precious doesn't even begin to describe him... he truly is a little miracle. Brent and I are so in love! I had a long day of labor - 18 hours from the start of induction, but it was worth every second. As many of you know, I was planning on having a natural birth. After 11 hours of strong contractions 1-2 minutes apart on pitocin and little progress, I was frustrated and miserable to say the least. After I gave in and got an epidural, they actually halfed the pitocin amount and I started dilating quickly. We were thankful, because it was looking like I was heading towards a c-section. His birth was amazing! Grammy and Daddy Brent were in the room to witness the event. The past 48 hours have been so sweet getting to know this little wonder. Nursing is a work in progress, but we hope to get the hang of it soon. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! They have been felt, answered, and appreciated!

Still Waiting...

It's March 1st! This means that little Noah has missed his birth month completely :-). That's okay... we'll take him whenever! It is a beautiful day outside today - sunny with snow on the ground. Gilly especially likes playing and rummaging through the snow.

We are still anxiously waiting for Noah, although the few extra days he is taking has made things a bit easier for my family. My grandfather passed away on Noah's due date, and although he will be greatly missed, I know that he is happy to be with my Granny. Brent and I are humbled with the sometimes painful circle of life... as one family member takes his last breath, another gets ready to take his first. "Granddaddy Sr's" legacy will carry on... We love you, Granddaddy and miss you already!

I will keep everyone updated about a possible induction date next week...

Well, we have about a week and half until my due date! This must be the hardest part... the waiting is killing us! We are so excited to meet our little boy, and are so thankful to be full term. His nursery is done, and has been lovingly put together with furnishings and decorations from friends and family. The crib is from Alicia, the curtains from Gran and Omi, the whale painting from Granddaddy Blair, and the rocker painted by Daddy Brent. Thank you all! Brent and I will update the website once little Noah gets here and post LOTS of pictures of his sweet face so all can see. Won't be long now...

Our Story

With a new arrival on the way, Brent and I decided to start a blogspot! We are so excited about the upcoming birth of our son, Noah Vaughn… 6 weeks and counting. Of course, we can’t wait to share him with everyone! But first, here’s a little bit about Brent and I. We met in vet school at Mississippi State University, and dated for three years before getting married. We married at First Baptist Church in Starkville, and honeymooned at Little Palm Island in the Keys. It was fabulous!!

We settled in West Palm Beach, FL for our first two years of marriage, which were busy ones for both of us. Brent worked at Palm Beach Equine Clinic, and I worked at Palm Beach Veterinary Referral and Critical Care Center. We moved to Franklin, TN during the summer of 2007, and slowed the pace a little. Getting to see more of each other has been wonderful over the past 2 years.

Brent and I have always looked forward to children, and our journey to parenthood has been a little different – but rewarding nonetheless! After completing in vitro fertilization in June 2008, we received the joyous news that we were expecting. Excited doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about becoming parents. So hopefully this blogspot will keep everyone up to speed as we begin this new chapter in our lives!
